S-series: Koki Tamagoyaki Raffles City Basement review

Hi,

I remember there was a period of time, Claire and I would frequent Raffles City every weekday nights. I guess our dinner location is heavily dependent on where she works. We don’t know why but her different jobs always always ends later than my one job.

Anyways my memory of dinner at Raffles City was always Cedele Bakery Cafe… or McDee. Well we very much prefered Cedele most of the time we’re here. And while we were there, we always notice this new stall just opposite.

It was new.. like at least a year ago.. Because I like to dig old stuffs to blog yeah? Well not exactly lah, its just that we only made the effort to visit it recently. This is Koki Tamagoyaki.

They made Tamago in those rectangular pans you would see in Japan. And they sell them with special toppings like some quirky sandwich. And bentos of course, what kind of Japanese style eatery doesn’t sell bentos right.

Check out the menu screen below.

Ala carte includes 6 slices of tamagoyaki and bentos only gives you 3 slices. I believe you guys can read it without my commentary anyways.

Well they also sell moldy mushrooms… oh my bad, mold and mushrooms are fungi. Opps sorry, they were custard puffs not mushrooms. Now they look bloody awesome now that I realise they weren’t mushrooms. We never bought them though, unfortunately.

We got ourselves an ala carte chicken karaage tamagoyaki and a kani tobiko bento

Claire loved the cute packaging, I don’t really care because I was hungry.

The tamagoyaki slices were really nice, its cooked on the outside layer while still moist in the middle. The karaage were.. well can’t go wrong with fried stuff right? Its tasty. My kani tobiko, or crab meat and flying fish roe, mixes well with my seasoned rice. But that might not be a good thing, because I feel like I’m just eating rice with eggs you see.

All in, its a quick but not-so-cheap meal that left us unsatisfied. Not because its not tasty, but because the portion is a little lacking. I should’ve just go for the bento with meat like cha shu or chicken teriyaki, Claire just need greens, which I can solve by bringing her to a nearby grass patch (kidding!!).

Ciao now.
