[Simonseries] Hobbies Bobby ep1: Hiking? At MacRitchie Nature Reserve

Hi this is Simon, today I wanna share what I like to do.

I’ve always like to walk since I was young. I still remember the 20mins walk to school during my primary school days. I always took my time preparing and I always missed my school bus. So I ended up walking to school with all the books on my little back. The route involves first jumping across a big open drain, walking through landed houses estate (= wide open morning skies!) lined with Saga trees, climbing down a slightly long flight if stairs, crossing the road to the bustling wet market, crossing another road to the Community Centre and taoist temple, walk through the open carpark with a cluster of towering Angsana trees, and entering the back door or my school greeted by the scent of ripe mangoes on the branches.

Its like a little adventure everyday.

When I got enlisted to the army, I got closer to nature, route marches was a joy to me although its really tiring… The walk was totally enjoyable with the scent of the earth and the sun shining through the canopy of tall trees along the trail and my pack and whatever weapon I’m assigned to weighing down on my back.

These days I always bring my camera and a big water bottle in my backpack. There are always a lot of things in my big backpack people think I’m a runaway.

BUT what the didn’t know is… I’m always ready for WAR!!

Ok lah maybe not for war. Its that I may go to a nearby park to walk around, explore a bit. I always do things on a whim, so I gotta be ready for myself right?

So after the long story, all I wanted to say is I went to MacRitchie Nature Reserve recently, on a whim. No plans no nothing, I just suddenly felt like going after work. So I went.

Decided to walk towards Jelutong Tower from the bus stop, so I prep my insect repellent patch (yes I got them in my bag all the time) and whip out my camera for the walk. Or is this a hiking session?

I’ve only got like 1 hour before I got to leave this place (to meet Claire of course). So its too bad I can’t cover even half way around the reservoir. I’ll post some photos I took along the way.

Ok I guess thats it. After getting out of the place covered in sweat and slightly muddied, I got on a bus and went on my way to meet Claire. And yah, what a random and abrupt ending. Lol!! Oh yah by the way its good to wear a pair of more heavyduty shoes for such activities. Last time I used to just wear flip flops, and I always slipped. I wore a New Balance 574 and although the sole made me slipped a lot on smooth hard surfaces, it did well on the trail! Some random ramblings again, I shall sign off here. Randomness is my middle name, ok bye guys.
