Welcome to Explore series #36. This time round its not really urbex or the likes, its just us going to Wisma Atria after what can be considered a long time. We haven’t been to that part of town due to our busy schedules.. So when Claire had to run an errand there, we took the chance to take a look around.
We really haven’t been here for awhile so at least 30% of the shops are new to us. We were hungry as usual so I thought we might as well make it a lunch date and settle for this new place: Picnic.
I’m quite impress with the decorations here, I think they wanted to make it look like you’re having a meal in a park, hence the name picnic. When you sit on one of the tables it just feels like you’re actually having a picnic in a park in the mall. I think one think they can do better would be the lightings, more natural light would give you a better sense of dining in the open like a picnic. But taking into consideration of the limitations inside a mall, I think they tried their best.
All the greens and arches and even the counter have greens stuck to the planks. So green I think the birds will start coming in thinking this is a tree.
The dining style here is a little like Marche. You go in with a buzzer of sorts, then go order you food with it, eat, then pay at the counter before you leave the place. Its free seating so we took our time to choose a nice spot. It was a lazy weekend afternoon and its not as crowded as we thought. I thought new places like this will draw a large crowd. You know lah we locals got nothing better to do living in this little island..
There are about 8-9 stalls including the mandatory drinks stall and dessert/ice cream stall. They are made to look like food trucks, below are a few examples:
Ordering is done by scrolling through the touch screen and add what you want to the cart. Once you are happy with you order, you can confirm it and place your buzzer on the reader so that meal will be tagged to your buzzer.
Once you meal is done, your buzzer will.. well.. buzz. and the name of the stall will also show up on the buzzer screen. Quite cool.
Claire had the Budaejigae Ramen from the Korean stall, above is before stirring, below is after.. Note the drastic change. LOL.
While I had the good ol’Katsu Curry from the Japanese stall. The food were alright, Claire’s Budaejigae Ramen tasted like instant food, but Budaejigae always taste like instant food. And my Katsu Curry had Katsu fillet that’s fried nicely, crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. But the Curry kinda taste like instant food too.
Overall I think the experience is good, the food presentation were nice and that kinda compliments the decorations. The taste though.. could be improved. It somehow taste like (atas) food court food.
We go on to check out, there were like 4 – 5 stations for checking out but its still kinda slow, probably because the general public always have some trouble doing self-checkouts. Too used to cashiers right..
We might come again, for the awesome decors. But maybe we’ll just come in have a glass of something and chill instead of having a meal.
